As promised, I’m reviewing my favorite wine from the Posh Liquors event with Branwar Wines. Here is a list of the three wines featured that night:

  • Passages, Chardonnary (2013)
  • Doolhof, Cabernet Sauvignon (2011)
  • Cascina Gilli, Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco (2013)

It’s not rocket science that the wine that stood out to me the most was…drum roll please…Doolhof Cabernet Sauvignon. I like to think of this cab as that dude you randomly meet who has a great personality, but not necessarily the looks to back it up. Yet, the more you talk to him, the more he begins to grow on you. Doolhof is like the Steve Urkel of wines. After a couple sips, this cab was definitely wearing me down ;)

Ty’s Takeaways…

So, this full-bodied cab was intense at first sip. Immediately, I got the taste of sour cherries. The tannins were pretty powerful, leaving a very tart taste in my mouth. But surprisingly, the second sip was very smooth and refreshing. I was no longer overwhelmed by the bitterness of the grapes. I’m telling you, this wine went from Steve Urkel to Stefan Urquelle! It was soooo smooth. I felt like it was trying to run game on me. And for once in my life, I was actually okay with that…lol. #isurrender

It’s funny because I had the opportunity on Monday night to really enjoy this cab at home. I was cooking dinner, while drinking a glass couple glasses and talking to my best friend on the phone…so multi-talented, I know…and all I kept saying to my best friend was “this wine is soooo good.” I could not get enough! I had two glasses and was definitely feeling it (see below). Normally, on a good night, I can run through a bottle (#nojudgment), but I really wanted to savor this bottle and like Keith Sweat make it last forever!

Overall Rating: 4 Corks

Buzzworthy: Definitely buzzworthy! After one glass, I was in looovvve with that Doolhof!!! #ayyyeee Sorry, I’m listening to my ratchet Pandora station as I write this review. But seriously, this wine is legit if you’re looking to get your buzz on. Doolhof Cabernet Sauvignon contains 14.5 percent alcohol. That’s high on the spectrum considering that that most cabs cap out at 14.5 percent. I swear this wine has super powers because I’m literally having a party at my dining room table right now. Don’t sleep on this cab! Get on my level and enjoy!
