Well okay then, Mr. Clap Clap Bravo…and a Glass of Moscato. Has anyone else noticed that Drake raps a lot about wine? Like a lot, a lot…I’ve always felt like Drake’s music spoke to me and now I see why. He’s a rapper after my own heart.

This week’s #WineWednesday pick is Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, which Drake mentions in The Motto. According to my friend, your vino card should be revoked if you only drink wine that’s featured in hip hop music (cough, cough Moscato)…UNLESS it’s Santa Margherita or Opus One (Jay Z) then you’re cool. #tears

This same friend bought me a bottle of Santa Margherita for my birthday last year and I thought I’d finally test it out. Let’s see just how legit this wine really is…

Ty’s Takeaways…

MargheritaSo, I have to start by making a small confession…I don’t think I’ve ever had a Pinot Grigio before. If I did, I can’t remember.

According to the bottle, Santa Margherita introduced Pinot Grigio to America nearly three decades ago and this authentic Italian style continues to set the standard for all Pinot Grigios today.

The aromas from this wine are soft yet strong. I recognized a hint of apple and possibly some pear. The taste was quite the opposite. I found this Pinot Grigio to be very sour. You can feel the level of acidity in your mouth go from 0-10 (pun intended) real quick gradually. I wasn’t a fan. I really tried to like this wine, but it just doesn’t agree with my palate. It literally tasted like lemon water with a dash of alcohol.

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio is a lot like Drake. I think he’s a great artist, but in real-life I feel like he’s probably really lame. And like Drake, there’s a lot of hype around Santa Margherita because it’s in a rap song (so it must be “legit”), but in reality I was disappointed. I know you’re not supposed to “lay down” whites, but this is one wine that I’d happily lay down…for good.

Overall Rating: Two Corks

Buzzworthy: I could barely drink two glasses for this review. It actually gave me a headache. This Pinot Grigio contains 12.5 percent alcohol, so it has potential to be buzzworthy if you find this wine appealing.

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio wasn’t for me, but if you have other Pinot Grigio recommendation please let me know. Until next time…
