YGOM Holiday Wine-Down Recap

IMG_0617Tis’ the season to be merry and sip lots of wine!! Last weekend, I hosted the first YGOM Holiday Wine-Down event. It was so much fun bringing together wine luvhers from across the city to celebrate the holidays. The evening was perfect…

– Great wines from event sponsors, Favorite Brands and Banfi Wines (check)

– Sophisticated ambiance (check)

– And lots of great people!!! (double check)

The night was everything and more!! Carl Chargois from Favorite Brands was on deck to provide background and answer questions about each of the wines. I loved bringing together people and introducing them to new wines. Guests who participated in the YGOM social media challenge, were able to go home with a bottle from Banfi Wines. The evening was filled with good conversation and amazing wine, the perfect recipe for a great time!

Here’s a list of the YGOM wine selection:

  • Yarrabank, Yarra Valley Sparkling Cuvee (2004)
    Specs (Downtown Houston Location), $20.41 / $19.39 (regular/cash price)

Everyone loved this bubbly! This sparking white wine from Victoria, Australia, consists of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, which creates the perfect balance of ripeness and acidity.

  • The Doctors, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (2013)
    Specs (Downtown Houston Location), $15.78 / $14.99

My favorite Sauvignon Blanc!! This white wine is from Marlborough, New Zealand and consists of bold tropical fruits aromas with crisp flavors and a tart finish.

  • Paco & Lola, Rias Biaxas Albarino Lolo (2013)
    Specs (Downtown Houston Location), $16.62 / $15.79

Albarino is the new chardonnay…or least I’m trying to make it be! Everyone should make Albarino their new go-to white. This amazing wine from Spain is a nice transition white…not too sweet and not too dry.

  • Von Kesselstatt, Mosel Riesling RK (2013)
    Specs (Downtown Houston Location), $15.78 / $14.99

Talk about a complex wine! Don’t let this wine’s funky, earthy aroma fool you! This Riesling has a sweet finish that many dessert wine luvhers will enjoy.

  • Cloudine, Williamette Valley Pinot Noir (2014)
    Specs (Downtown Houston Location, 19.88 / 18.89

Ain’t no Pinot Noir like a Williamette Valley Pinot Noir! Cloudine Pinot does not disappoint. It’s full of full of beautiful berry aromas, followed by a nice fruit forward taste that will please your palette thoroughly.

  • Mettler Family Vineyards, Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon (2012)
    Specs (Downtown Houston Location, $22.99 / $21.84

This Cabernet Sauvignon is everything a Cab should be…bold cherry flavors, full-bodied with a smooth finish. Plus, did I mention that this is an organic wine?! Yup, no pesticides were used in the harvesting of these grapes!

  • Peirano Estate Vineyards, Lodi Zinfandel Immortal (2012)
    Specs (Downtown Houston Location, $13.46 / $12.79

Immortal?! Yes, indeed!! I want this wine to live forever! This Zinfandel was light and refreshing. I could drink it every night!

  • Pacific Rim, Columbia Valley Riesling (2013)
    Purchase online, $15

Several guest were lucky to take a bottle of this wine home. This Riesling is a wonderful sweet white to add into your everyday rotation. This white has the perfect balance of crisp aromas and flavors.

  • Rainstorm, Oregon Pinot Noir (2013)
    Fresh Market, Wal-Mart, $18

Oregon should just have a lock down on the Pinot Noir market. Rainstorm is another great Pinot…this red is full of very strong floral aromas followed by the taste of ripe cherries that are tart yet still refreshing.
