Bota Mini Cabernet Sauvignon

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon | Region: California | Retailer: H-E-B | Price: $3.77 Oh, boxed wine! Why do so many people hate on you? Just the mere mention of it and people automatically shutter. For whatever reasons, boxed wine is often considered cheap and low in quality. That, my wine friends is not always true and I will prove that to you! It may not be my first preference when I go wine shopping, but I’m definitely not opposed to drinking from the box. Last Friday, I was picking up ingredients for the red wine hot chocolate that I recently blogged about over the weekend. The recipe calls for a cup of red wine. I have tons of bottles of red at home, but didn’t want to open a full bottle since I haven’t really been drinking reds lately. So, I was going to pick up a pack of mini bottles, when I came across the Bota Mini.…

YGOM Holiday Wine Gift Guide

Christmas is just a couple weeks away, which means it’s time to get a move on your holiday shopping! We all know that wine is one of those signature (and easy) gifts to give during the holiday season. Now, I will say that it’s okay to bring a bottle of wine over someone’s house as a token of appreciation for inviting you over for dinner (or some type of holiday party), but let’s face it….as a stand alone gift, a bottle of wine is becoming almost equivalent to a gift card, which can insinuate that not much thought was put into it. I know that may not be the truth, but as a wine lover myself, I can’t tell you how many bottles of wines I’ve received as gifts over the years. Now, I’m not one to ever (eva, eva) turn away wine, but come on now, there are plenty of other alternatives. That’s why I’m here to help…

Hot Chocolate with a Wine Twist

The temperature in Houston has finally dropped after nearly eight months of humidity! It almost feels like home (California) with this 60 degree weather. This weekend, we’re supposedly in for a storm (as of 12:30 p.m. it hasn’t hit yet), so you know what that means?! Yes, indoor activities only because nobody wants to be out in the rain, especially in Houston! This is “snuggle up on the couch and watch movies” type of weather. Which I am definitely here for because it gives me more time to work on my blog! Well, nothing says “baby it’s cold outside” more than a cup of hot chocolate. Honestly, I haven’t had hot chocolate since I was a little kid. My friend recently sent me a recipe for hot chocolate with wine from Daily Mail, which definitely caught my attention. You know I’m always down to try anything with wine! So last night before the storm hit Houston, we…

The Real House Wines of Houston

When you see “house wine” listed on a menu, do you: A.) Immediately scroll down in search of the “real” wines on the list B.) Select the house red or white because you’re really not sure what kind of wine to order (and it’s the cheapest!) Whatever your choice may be, I think most of us can admit that we really have no clue as to what a “house wine” really is exactly. House Wine Qualifications At a restaurant, a “house wine” is considered a basic, everyday, not particularly special wine offering that is normally inexpensive. These are wines that restaurants are typically ready to move, such as, left over event wine, the last few bottles of a case, or something the restaurant has gotten a deal on. It’s often sold by the glass, or sometimes by the carafe or bottle, and usually both a red and white are available. The menu rarely offers much insight…

Shake Shack Wine Review

Last week while Houston was all a buzz about finally getting a Shake Shack (womp, womp, womp), I was more like… I can’t tell you how many photos of burgers and crinkled french fries were flooding my timeline from people who were oh so excited about Houston finally getting a spot here. You would’ve thought In & Out was coming to town (says the California girl with a smirk). I haven’t eaten beef since ’89 (ok, more like ’04), so places like this really don’t amuse me, BUT that was until I saw an IG post with someone holding a purdy little stemless glass of wine over one of those burgers. I immediately went to the Shake Shack website and was pleasantly surprised to discover that this fast food joint offered its own house wines. So wine friends, you know I had to stop by (and brave the long lines) all in the name of…
